When you need it

The Collection of National Taxes Act (국세징수법, Article 107) lists a foreigner’s application to extend their stay among the cases where a tax payment certificate must be submitted. It is also asked for in some contracts and loans. It is only issued if you have no unpaid national tax.

Get it online (free)

  1. Log in to Hometax or the Sontax app (see how to log in), or use Gov24.
  2. Find 납세증명서 under certificates (민원증명).
  3. Choose the purpose (for example, immigration) and the language, then issue and print it.

Because it is only valid for 30 days, get it close to your appointment.

Local taxes

Some offices also ask for a local tax certificate (지방세 납세증명서), issued on Gov24 or at your district office. If you are not sure, take both.
