The two certificates
- Certificate of eligibility (자격득실확인서) — when you were enrolled, and whether through work or as an individual. Employers, schools and some visa applications ask for it.
- Premium payment confirmation (보험료 납부확인서) — the premiums you have paid. Useful at extension time: unpaid premiums are shared with immigration and taken into account.
Who is enrolled, and when
- Employees are covered through work from their first day.
- Others (self-employed, not working) are enrolled as individual members after 6 months in Korea. F-5 (permanent resident), F-6 (marriage) and E-9 holders are enrolled from registration, and students on D-2 and D-4 visas under a separate rule — usually from registration.
- Dependents brought from abroad must have stayed 6 months before they can be added (since April 2024). Spouses, children under 19 and some visa types are exempt.
Rules differ in detail by visa. For your case, call 1577-1000 or visit an NHIS branch.
